week 3 - words, words, i love words

Trying a new technology can be great and / or frustrating.
Wordle has been such experience.
I took Simon and Garfunkel’s song "I am a rock" and put it into Wordle creator.
Got a cloud.
FIRST SETBACK - CAN'T SAVE IT AS A "WORD" DOCUMENT. Actually, can't save it at all to my computer.
So, I printed, scanned and saved it.
From my students I got mixed reactions - some, especially the artistic ones, loved the idea and the layout. Some, on the other hand, felt lost in the cloud.
All in all - the activity went well. They had to find out the meaning of the words they didn't know. Then they tried to figure out the song - what it is about, is it happy / sad etc.
It was very interesting to watch their guessing process.
The best part was the cooperation (I work with small groups - 5-6 kids).
It was great!
So, within the limits, it's a nice and easy tool.
Have fun!

  1. Hi Talila,
I relate very much to your frustration. Many times I feel that all of this technology development is not for me, and how come everyone says it's so easy- and I get stuck with it for hours… But I have learned that practice makes perfect. Using technology is actually a skill, a mussel we need to make more flexible. In the end we will be athletics! If the new generation can do it, so can we…
It is interesting to see the different reaction of the students to our tasks. It is also hard to make sure everyone is engaged to the activity. Very challenging for a teacher to make sure every student has an option to show his capabilities and strengths.
Thanks for the idea of the lesson plan!
